Originally from the East Coast, Gretchen Bliss Haines was born into the horse industry. Her grandparents owned a racing stable for trotters and pacers. Around the age of five she started riding at a facility in Massachusetts. She joined a pony club, started showing, and has been riding ever since.
She instructs a variety of ages and riding levels, from pony club kids to serious eventers and circuit riders. Teaching first and foremost the fundamentals of riding used in all riding disciplines.
Gretchen specializes in building confidence, not only in the rider, but also in their equine partner. She does this by providing very clear directions on what she is asking of each rider and the horse. Always making sure that both understand how and why something is done.
Gretchen also teaches horsemanship and stable management as part of her riding curriculum. In addition to teaching students, she trains a veriety of horses and ponies. Ever improving her own riding, she has developed a systematic training process based on the United States Equestrian Federation Pyramid, and she always puts the health and happiness of the horse first.
